January News Round Up

Awards Night
Thank you to everyone who came along to support our annual Awards Night on 19th January, it was great to see so many people there and to celebrate the running successes from the last year. A big congratulations also goes to the winners of the renamed ‘Harrier of the Quarter’ awards which were presented on the night too;

Brian Greenfield, Steve Amey, Kristina Varley and Nikki Whittaker

A reminder of who won what can be found HERE and there were plenty of great pictures flooding social media too! A huge thank you also to Phil Sparkes who works tirelessly to make sure that the Championship is a success every year – thanks Phil!

Coaching Update
Just a reminder that the training schedule is always available on the website with session details added before a Club night so please do have a look ahead of time so you have an idea of the group you would like to run with. There is also a key which explains more about the different sessions and gives approximate mileage for effort sessions. You can find it all on the training section of the members page HERE

Also, just a quick reminder please that paced runs should be done at the pace stated and please do listen carefully to your coach for details of regroups.

The trial of splitting the blue steady run into two paced groups was very well received and so the next split blue session run will be on Tuesday 5th February.

Please speak to any of the coaches if you have any questions or are unsure about anything. You can find out who the coaches are in our online rogues’ gallery, which you can see in the coaches section of the members page HERE

Viewing the training schedule
Now that the new website is up and running, we have worked hard to improve the training schedule. This is now on its own page and should be much easier to view and scroll on phones and tablets. Thanks for your patience whilst we worked on getting this right.

BU student’s dissertation on runners – can you help?
We have been contacted by a student at BU who is writing a dissertation on runners – what better topic is there?! He is looking for runners to participate in a question and answer interview and of course contacted us as the friendly and helpful Club that we are! The topic is ‘What motivates runners of different ability levels to participate in road running events throughout Dorset.’ The study looks to see if runners of varying abilities have different reasons for entering races (10km discipline). He is looking for runners who meet the following criteria;
-Adult (18+) – open to both genders
-Completed a 10km road race in 2018 without injury. (Races listed on Run Britain)
-Your fastest time from races you’ve entered falls into one of the two groups:
-Advanced Group: Male (Sub 40 minutes), Females (Sub 45 minutes)
-Moderate Group: Male (55 minutes or longer), Females (60 minutes or longer)

If you think you are able to help, please contact Matthew Ginn directly via i7622581@bournemouth.ac.uk for more information.

Committee meeting update
The committee met for the first meeting of 2019 on 8th January. Minutes have been sent out to all members via email. If you have any questions about anything, please speak to a member of the committee. Again, you can see who the committee members are on the committee section of the members page on the website HERE

A HUGE and heartfelt apology goes out to the LDH women’s team who were in fact 2nd in the DRRL and not 3rd as incorrectly stated. The official minutes have now been updated with the correct information and we are very sorry for the mistake!

CC and DRRL races for 2019
Race places seem to be selling out quicker and quicker! To avoid the need for last minute number-grabbing, you can keep an eye on the CC and DRRL races on the racing section of the members page HERE – we will keep the website as up to date as possible regarding when races are opening and when they are sold out. (At the time of writing, both lists are correct!)

Happy running, Sea of Orange!
