London Marathon Club Ballot

A reminder that if you were unsuccessful in the main London ballot, you may be eligible to enter the Club ballot instead. Full eligibility details can be seen on our website HERE

If you would like to be considered for the ballot, please email Suzanne via suzannejanes20@gmail.com with your original London marathon rejection email. The current count is 44 hopeful entrants!

The draw for places will be taking place on Tuesday 19th November in the bar after our Club runs – there will also be a buffet so come along and join in the excitement!

If you have booked your place by Tuesday 19th November, then you will also be entered in the draw to win one of two hotel rooms – the draw is taking place at the same social night mentioned above. For more information, speak to Mike Neal or Laurence.

Minstead Stinger – this Sunday!

This Sunday 3rd November is our penultimate Club Championship race of the season at the Minstead Stinger – and it is also our Club social. For those who are travelling by coach from Littledown, please see Barry’s email for full details. The coach will be leaving from Chaseside at 8:40am prompt so please be there for 8:30am. After the race, we will be heading to the Green Dragon pub in Brook for some food and a drink – even if you are not going on the coach, please do swing by the pub on your way home! https://www.greendragonbrook.co.uk/

Boscombe 10k – can you help?

Boscombe 10k on 24th November is our last Club Championship race of the year and many Harriers will be running. However, if you aren’t taking part and could spare a couple of hours, they are still in need of a few more marshals. Bournemouth Joggers support the Littledown 5 every year and provide marshals for a whole section, so it would be great if we can return the favour. If you can help, please contact Patricia via pat.everitt@hotmail.com

Coaches – Top Tip

Have you ever thought about how you breathe whilst you run? Those of you who are experienced runners will probably know how; however, if you’re newer to running then it’s something you should think about. Breathing in a uniformed manner will improve both your breathing and running efficiency. Try using the 2:2 method…breathing in over two strides and out over two strides, concentrating on gradually increasing the length of time spent using this method on your runs. This will also focus your mind away from the realities of life and make you a more focused runner. You can of course use a 3:3 or 4:4 method. Good luck!

Coaches First Aid Course

In October the Club sent all our coaches on a first aid course, where they learned about basic first aid such as CPR and the recovery position. We very much hope they will never need to use it, but any little bit of knowledge could make all the difference in an emergency.

Please do consider how you can keep yourself as safe as possible on runs too; remember to bring medication such as inhalers with you if you need them when you run and ensure your medical and contact details are up to date, via your England Athletics profile page and the Love Admin page you renewed/paid your membership through. Any questions on how to do any of this, please email secretary@littledownharriers.co.uk and we can help you out.

CC and DRRL races for 2020 confirmed

The Club Championship and Dorset Road Race League races for the 2020 season have now been confirmed – you can read the full list HERE

Some are already open for entries, and the way things are going all these races will sell out fast! If you want a place, best to enter ASAP to avoid the last-minute panic and number grabbing! 😊

The 2019 CC is not quite over yet though! Remember to let Rachel or Steve know your marathon time if you would like that to count as one of your 8 races for this year.

Charmouth Challenge – 4th July 2020

The club has reserved at least 50 places at £16 for the Charmouth Challenge 8-mile off road race, which is a Club Championship race and also a club social event.

An email will be sent out soon with full details how you can enter and make your entry fee payment so there’s no need to enter using the official race site. Please wait for the Harrier club email as this will allow you to receive the group discount.

We will also be arranging a subsidised coach to the event – again, full details will be following shortly. Any questions please speak to Barry, Rachel or Steve O’Connell.
