News Round-Up for March 2020

Stay at Home. Protect the NHS. Save Lives.

Coronavirus – all club activity cancelled

As members will be aware, all club activity has been cancelled until at least 31st May on the advice of the Government and England Athletics. We will keep everyone updated as more information becomes available. Thank you to everyone for observing the Government guidelines regarding social distancing and running solo, or with members of your own household only, at this time.

Membership and affiliation fees for 2020/21

Renewals are normally due on 1st April each year, however this year the requests for payment of membership and affiliation fee renewals will not be sent out until we have resumed club activity once again. We will keep you updated over the coming weeks, and we will send out further information about fees once we are back running together again.

Affiliated runners: please note that your 2019/2020 affiliation will be extended by England Athletics until 31st August, so if we do find ourselves racing again soon, affiliations will still be valid.

Bournemouth parkrun Harriers take over for C25K graduation – event postponed

Thank you so much to the many members who volunteered to help at the C25K graduation parkrun takeover, originally scheduled for this coming weekend, 4th April. As all parkrun events globally are currently cancelled, as is all club activity, the event will not be going ahead as planned. Once we are back to normal again then we would hope to hold the event for the next C25K graduation. More information will follow in due course.

Harrier(s) of the Quarter

Thank you to everyone who nominated someone for Harrier of the Quarter. There were lots of nominations received and for a wide range of reasons, which is wonderful. We will be announcing the winners over Facebook and email very soon, and everyone who was nominated will get a well-deserved shout out! Watch this space for some good news!

Lockdown Challenges

Many thanks to Mike Kibble for all his hard work keeping everyone motivated through these strange times!

Mike has been leading us on both a 10K relay challenge (boys v girls!) heading north through England, and a group virtual run to reach Netanya, Bournemouth’s twin city in Israel. To participate in the Netanya challenge, share your runs each day on our group Facebook and be sure to tag Mike in otherwise he won’t see them, and Mike will then log all the mileage and post a daily update. For the relay challenge, look out for a nomination to pick up the (virtual) baton from one of your fellow runners!

Well done everyone for keeping motivated and active (whilst also following the current Government guidelines on social distancing and daily exercise, of course!)

Littledown Lockdown – Spotify playlist

For anyone who uses Spotify, there has been a communal lockdown playlist set up to accompany you on your solo runs, home workouts or dances around the kitchen. Please do add a couple of your favourite, upbeat tracks for your fellow members to enjoy/critique! Every couple of weeks, the playlist will be archived and a new one started to keep things fresh and interesting. You can add to or listen to the playlist here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4HOnuhVzWLFc9uk7OF3kHB?si=zm-gazOSRCmQLZmkETBUFQ

Where can I keep up to date?

Updates on the current situation will be shared by email and via the club’s Facebook group. Wider updates will also be posted on our website homepage.

Where can I get support if I need it, or ask any questions I might have?

If there is anything the club can support you with at this tricky time, if you need any help or someone to talk to, or if you have any questions, then please contact us via the contact form on the website and we will do all we can to help – https://www.littledownharriers.co.uk/contact-us/

And a big ‘thank you!’

And finally, a massive thank you to our many members who are working on the front-lines at this difficult time; from those in the NHS, carers and key workers, the police and other emergency services, to teachers and those keeping our supermarket shelves stocked and our country going however that may be – we truly thank you!

Stay safe, stay well, stay home – and we hope to get through this quickly and all be back together running very soon.
