Williard Chinhanhu scored his third win of the year as he took the
Littledown five mile road race title in 25 min 51 sec.
The former Zimbabwe
international came home with a 14 second lead over Nathan Shrubb (Morpeth
Harriers). Third-placed Ian Habgood (26:30) led Bournemouth AC to second
in both team competitions, but despite five finishers in the top dozen,
they could not dislodge Poole Runners.
Kyle Hackett (fifth,
26:38) and George Miller (seventh, 27:17) backed up Chinhanhu’s
advantage in the open competition, and augmented by Leif Chandler
(tenth, 28:03) and first over-45 Mike Grist (13th, 28:34), they also
took Dorset League team honours. Alan Lewis added an over-60 win to the
club’s haul in 32:24, with Hamish Murray of Purbeck Runners the pick of
the over-55s (31:38).
The women’s race was a
home win for Littledown Harrier Emma Dews in 30:37. BAC’s Janie Chapman
was runner up (32:17), while third-placed Nikki Sandell (32:49) and
Vicky Bishop (seventh, 34:17) secured the team prizes for the host club.
Janice Palmer of Poole
Runners (fourth, 33:03) was first over-50 with Caroline Horder from
Bournemouth Joggers (sixth, 34:15) taking the over-60 category.
The race was preceded by
one minute’s applause in memory of Littledown stalwart Mike Bush.
