What’s that coming over the hill???   …..Is it an Ultra virgin??

Report: ...DARTMOOR DISCOVERY ULTRA MARATHON....32.5 MILES...NO LESS!!

One of those races that you definitely question your sanity and chant "why oh why oh why" and then once you have crossed that finish line...you know exactly why!!

(Sarah, our Lady Captain, has asked me to file a report for the ladies, so although you guys with us, Paolo, Wayne, Ade, Steve Scalley, Barry Light, Phil Dodds, and soon to be new member..Reg Chapman...watch this space..., were equally fantastic, this one is just for the girls!!)

THE JOURNEY...."sing along a 70's" courtesy of Ade's outdated "record collection"....Paolo did not have a clue what was going on!! We did try our best to continue this on the way home...but I have to say the singing didn’t have quite as much "zest" to it!!

THE
MISSION...Breathtaking views...hills upon hills upon hills...possible mountains if you ask me!!  hardly a flat surface to be seen...and even the downs were hard because your legs were so tired from  the "ups" that you didn’t dare let them go for fear of giving way!!...but what fun!!  Lots of friendly wildlife and other club and Marshall support...our own drinks deposited and handed to us at feed stations, along with any other goodies you had there...sounds like a "doddle" really!!   Yes, it was tough tough tough, and once you legs and body refuses to play anymore...then your mind had to take over and get you to the finish...But...trust me...it really is a "must do event" for us hardy Harriers!!

MISSION COMPLETE....Kathy led us ladies home in 5.28, followed by me, in 5.37, and Naomi in 5.58...AND won the 2nd ladies team prize...beautiful glass trophies which we christened with champagne...such style we have!!   Both Kathy and I also picked up 1st and 2nd respectively in our age category...what a super outcome!!  It has to be mentioned that both Kathy and Naomi were Ultra Virgins....absolutely outstanding and amazing achievements!! We felt very very proud at the prize giving as Littledown definitely left there mark!!

One other lady who needs to be mentioned here as an outstanding young lady, is our Serena Fooks, who initially was coming along as support...but when someone dropped out, decided to maybe run a very few miles just to see what it was like....only intending to do the first 10 or 12 ...she went through to 18miles!! I must mention that the first half of the race was the toughest part...so well done Serena for such a brave and strong run...you will be on our list for next year young lady!!!

DISCO FEVER
....This was the only real reason why we all put ourselves through such a gruelling task!!!   The disco is a must as you have to get some life back into those limbs...and some kind of jigging movement is essential!! Not sure jumping and kicking of the legs is advisable so soon after...but hey ho....after a couple of drinks....we could conquer the world!!!

DIARY DATE.... DARTMOOR DISCOVERY 2012!!!  I think it 2nd June, entries will be out in August...so watch this space and as soon as we get the information, we will let you know as there is an entry limit of 200 and we also will need to book our very famous "bunkhouse"
accommodation. If you got to the end of this report without being bored or exhausted...then I would say your name should be on the list for next year!!

Once again, well done to all of us, both guys and gals who took part, and I’m sure Ade will be filing a report also!!                                                                                                Hev K

Report: What a brilliant turn out of Harriers in Puddletown yesterday and the wind and rain did nothing to dampen spirits at the start. Big thanks to Stuart, Ben and Peter for inspiring me to run some what quicker than I would have been on my own. Most impressed with Ben who having lagged a little in the middle picked it up at the end and stormed past myself and Stuart and was closing down Peter on the run in.

Well done to Paolo and Wayne some way out front and to everyone else who splashed there way round the hilly scenic route. Thanks again.                                                  Adam B.

Report: Puddletown Plod 20k   results looked great, well done to the guys as it seems they kept a good close race going on.  We had 6 Ladies running great run in all that rain and wind …great going!                                                                                       Sarah H Women’s Capt

Report: Some great runs from the team in possibly one of the wettest races ever.  Loads of runners with rain coats on, ankle high streams of water to run through, and rain, rain and more rain. Despite that 24 Harriers turned up to brave the conditions!   Great effort for everyone that ran the 20km, well done to Wayne and Paolo taking time out of their Iron Man training to lead the team back, and also congratulations to Steve Shuck for winning the 30km race!  Finally when the race was over there was another great performance - well done Vincent for your exemplary efforts in directing Steve Shuck back to his car safely, a truly outstanding achievement.  Who knows where he would have ended up without your help!

Ben R - Men’s Capt

Report: Five intrepid Harriers lined up for the Blandford Bridges 10k on Sunday.

Stuart Cull, Steve Hutton, Mike Terry, Dave "Wilco" Wilkinson and myself in the club Orange plus Andy Chisholm who has just started training with us. A hot day and a steady climb in the 2nd half made for a testing 10k race that was unlikely to produce any PBs. Andy and I had a right old ding dong of a battle - overtaking one and other several times in the last few K as the course went up then down to the finish. Steve aggravated an ankle injury and had a pretty uncomfortable race whilst everyone else seemed pleased with their run. A good, well run race (thus ensuring I did not get lost!) on an interesting course along the river, up a disused railway track - finishing with a run down the open green space of the Milldown and finishing at the school.                                                                                            Steve S

26.06.11North Devon Marathon

The North Devon AONB Marathon is a demanding yet beautiful course.  With Woolacombe bay as the centre-point, runners follow a figure-of-eight around some stunning coastal scenery and inland treats.  The steep inclines and mixture of terrain is enough to test any experienced runner. They also faced scorching temperatures reaching 28 degrees!

Report: Just done a very hot North Devon marathon. This was marathon number 21 for me and with the 23 ultras I've also done this puts me on a total of 44.....the same as my hero and Littledown Harrier running legend Kevin Dowsett....I feel humble to be in the same company.....                                                                                                            Ade H
