Report: ....a truly beautiful race....its taken me quite a few years now to realise how lovely it really is...slightly undulating, mostly track, and a "do able" distance at a good pace for us all....very well organised and in a beautiful setting...New Forest Runners are paying me good money for this report!!!!

Anyway...nitty gritty...we had 5 definite ladies there...maybe 6...I’m not doubting Madeleine as a lady, but I don’t think she was there although there is a result for her, so she shall be included.....wonderful results from us all, we all drank tea and some had picnics and some just ate sweets (moi!) ....and then we were highly delighted and surprised to have won 1st ladies team prize.

Just before I sign off...I like to mention a "wee lad"........9 year old Thomas Woods....he did the mile race at the New forest in a time of 7.38  WOW!  He obviously has his own Personal Trainers!!!                                                                                        Heather K - Women’s Captain

County Half Marathon Championship Award

*** Nikki Sandell in her amazing form won the Ladies Bronze and Masters Silver Medals ***

Report: With the first championship race after the AGM, it appears that 11 of the team had read section 4c of the new constitution ‘In the event of the Chairman racing you must yield field position' -  shame on you Mark, Peter and Stuart!

Another fine display by the Harriers, picking up yet another Dorset League podium.  Highlights included Stew's fine sprint finish (like a raging bull), Peter's 'No walking' mantra, and Mr Shuck you weren't too bad either.  Well done all, a very tough hilly race, great to see another great turn out.                                                                                                                    Ben R – Men’s Captain

Report: WOW LADIES.....11 of you turning out on a dismal wet Saturday morning....tremendous!!!  We are going from strength to strength....lots of new ladies are being encouraged and enthused by the not so new ladies, and everyone is doing so well by just turning up at races and enjoying, and doing the best they can....Watch out Dorset...Littledown Ladies mean business!!!!

I understand that the ladies team won a prize yet again this week....ain’t no stopping us now!!  The team were our nippy Nikki Sandal, Caroline Martin, so soon after her amazing 3 peaks challenge a brilliant achievement and finally Julie White.  Well done...lets keep this up and we will climb that Dorset League ladder.

Latest news......It had been confirmed that the ladies team came1st team…great work....... and yet another trophy was presented to Nikki as she was also 2nd in  her age group.

A HUGE WELL DONE to all you Swanage Swans                        Heather K – Women’s Captain

Remember - Wayfarers Relays – Sat 10th Sept.

South Dorset Ridgeway Challenge

Report: What an introduction to running ‘off road’ misleading instructions, an map with key areas obscured and only one water stop…probably sounds awful, but it was a great experience.

Organised by BHF starting in Martinstown near Dorchester. The base was a farm shop with a lovely cafe – maybe we should have just stayed for Sunday Lunch instead.

3 distances available – 21M, 12M and 6M for us Harriers it had to be 21!

In the team we had Paolo, Ade, Jeremy, Gerry, Tracey, Naomi and slowcoach – me.

The instructions and maps were not too bad until about 9 miles where the 12 mile entrants looped back to the start. Then it was every man and woman for him/herself. We had the very rare sighting of a marshal (3 in all) and probably about 5 direction arrows. The obvious strategy was to run in groups and try and navigate the course together. I was initially in a group of 9, which included Tracey, Gerry and Naomi. As I was the slowest in the group, I had the great advantage of playing catch-up while they navigated and avoiding the ‘small’ detours. However, it was the ‘large’ detours that really got us. At the first, we lost 2 of our group, who were locals and obviously knew where they were and how to get back onto the correct track. We went in search of a stone circle and managed to find the wrong one, costing us about 1.5 miles and at least 10 minutes of standing in the middle of a field looking at the ‘reference’ points on the map. We adopted a leader at this point, a marine from Taunton who was very good at reading maps – or so we thought.

Once back on course we progressed well until we found ourselves entering ‘private property’ even though we were following instructions. The owner was very kind letting us climb over his gate into a field which basically had no exit. This is the point where Gerry got the job of widening the gap in the barbed wire fences for us to get through, which we must have done at least 5 times in the next sector. Once again we were on the wrong path. Another 5 minutes of debate. We could see where we wanted to be but the only way was through corn fields.  As it wasn’t a legitimate path we got very scratched.

Finally, we got to the ‘Hardy Monument’ again. At this point we had already done 21 miles. At the second water station (which was the same point as the first and had no water) we had 2 to 3 miles to go. Shortly afterwards Naomi got a call from her other half to say he and the others had finished (covering 22-23 miles), so we didn’t feel quite so bad about how long we were taking.

A sigh of relief as we picked our way back ‘down’ into Martinstown. Unfortunately at this point my calf decides to lock up a couple of times and so a bit of stretching and hobbling was called for. Thanks to Naomi and Tracey for keeping an eye on me during the last mile or so. The view of the farm shop was very welcome and we finally staggered over the line in 5Hrs 50 mins having completed 24 miles.

Thanks to Paolo for the lift there, I could never have driven back and also thanks to Gerry for making the gaps in the fence big enough for my not very agile body to get through.

Would I do it again – probably not – but the 12 mile route could be extended to make an interesting Sunday run.                                                                                                                                  Janet H

Report: Just to add a little bit to make you laugh to Janet’s very accurate Ridgeway report.

When we set off (after having waited for ages to be photographed with the BHF flag which was some 400m away and had to be retrieved) Paulo set off at his blistering pace and the whole field followed him.  Mistake!!!! He took 2 – YES 2 – wrong turns in the 1st 50m – and like sheep – the whole field followed him!  Very soon the call went out - 'don't follow the man in the yellow top'!!

When our group found the 'Marine Commando' he told us that he had been with another group but that the 'guy in the yellow top' got them on the wrong track and they had cut off a corner and taken a short cut!!!  Someone (?) obviously got them lost again as they did 22ish miles instead of 21 in the end! He he he – it was a funny days running!  Pics on FB – although we seem to be standing around looking lost in most of them!                                                                                      Naomi B
